Dialogue Sparked Program

The aim of this new program is to spark conversation about significant issues and topics in the world today. It is geared toward UA students wishing to gain unique resume experience, start a conversation, meet new people, and explore a museum collection. Learn more and apply below.

What is Dialogue Sparked?

It is necessary to acknowledge that the original meaning of an object is lost the moment it enters the museum’s walls. The ability of a museum to unfold narratives and suggest inferences allows it to act as a platform for reflection on knowledge systems, beliefs, values and attitudes.”

                                                                                                  Smithsonian American Art Museum

“In the best conversations, no one is used; ownership is shared. Everyone leaves with a sense that the ideas exchanged belong to each person present. Everyone also leaves respecting those who were part of the exchange, whether or not there was agreement. For me, conversation does make connections, it helps make connection possible.”

                                                                                                   Michael Brenson, Curator

Dialogue Sparked aims to foster meaningful conversation about things that matter to the UA community. 2-5 UA students from across campus come together during one academic term (August – April) to get to know each other, pick a significant topic that is important to all of them, and collaborate on a final project utilizing the UA Museum’s diverse collections.

Who can participate?

The program is open to all UA students. Undergraduate and graduate students are both welcome, as are all academic disciplines. An important aspect of the program is to encounter people you might not otherwise meet during your academic studies. Hear new perspectives and exchange thoughtful discussions about what matters to you.

Groups will include only 2-5 participants per academic year.
